William Carney photograph album [graphic]. 1941-1945.

Bulk of album documents documents Carney's service in the United States Air Force during World War II in Europe , including portraits and snapshots of Carney and other soldiers on duty and during leisure time. Includes aerial combat scenes. Other photographs depict Carney while a student and with friends. Also pictured throughout the album is James A. Myl, a friend of Carney and the pilot on many of his combat missions.

Born in 1922, William A. Carney served in the United States Air Force as a gunner in World War II. After the war he attended the Missouri School of Journalism and obtained his masters in French from the University of California, Berkeley. Carney later taught French in the University of California system, and in the 1970's he restored Victorian and Edwardian homes in San Francisco.
